Cutting Carbon Where It Counts: The Banner Schoolwear Story
Banner Schoolwear produce high quality school uniforms and accessories for thousands of schools. Banner are ethical at heart and are a certified B Corp, achieving high environmental as well as social and governance standards. Banner wanted support on developing their Net Zero ambitions, with a desire to set a specific deadline, informed by an accurate footprint and some realistic goals.
Greener Energy Futures (also a certified B Corp) were chosen as partners to help Banner and delivered an enhanced carbon footprint including additional categories not previously considered, plus research into the context of how their industry is responding to carbon emissions.
With nearly 90% of emissions sitting in the manufacturing and supply of its products alone, the organisation needed to look beyond reducing energy use to tackle Net Zero. Greener Energy Futures facilitated a workshop with a large part of the senior leadership team to create carbon reduction projects that would both have impact, and ally with strategic goals. This resulted in several exciting projects.
“We’re committed to working on Net Zero emissions, so Simon’s expertise allowed us to develop some impactful projects that we’ll now turn into real benefits for not just the environment, but also our financial sustainability and in supporting the development of our staff”
Sarah Robins, Sustainability Manager at Banner Group added:
“With significant commitments in our organisation across many different initiatives, having the support of a carbon expert means I can confidently focus on meeting our goals, and frees up my time to focus on other essential projects”
“Banner and its associated group companies demonstrate that the complexity and impact of a large company benefits from top-level sponsorship; and the engagement on this topic demonstrates that Banner have the will to be the environmental leaders they are setting out to be. Applying our expertise in carbon allowed them to develop ideas that will have real impact”
