Greener Energy Futures is a B Corp!

Greener Energy Futures is now officially a certified B Corporation. It has been a challenging journey to get to this stage, even for a business like ours that advises companies on their net zero strategy.

Our certification sees Greener Energy Futures become part of a thriving community of over 80 accredited businesses in Bristol, and further strengthens the city’s role as the leading B Corp hub outside London. So, why did we seek certification?

Simply put, a net zero consultancy becoming a B Corp feels like a natural and obvious pairing. After all, environmental and social impact is at the heart of a business such as ours and B Corp certification is generally regarded as being the ‘gold standard’ in this area.

It provides us with is external validation that as a business we practice what we preach when it comes to seeking to become a more responsible business. This is important because to gain the trust of the organisations we seek to support we must also be able to demonstrate that our actions reinforce the masts we have pinned our colours to.

Indeed, speaking to BusinessDesk magazine, Greener Energy Futures Managing Director, Simon Pyne, said:

“Becoming a B Corp is as exciting as it is challenging. The nature of the work we do means we already have a sound working knowledge of how a business can and should reduce its impact on the environment.

“It is not just about operating along more sustainable lines. Being a B Corp places as much emphasis in the social impact element too. We had been doing well on both counts, but we knew we could be better.”

And this is where B Corp certification came into play. It provides a benchmark that enables businesses and organisations to assess whether the social and environmental initiatives they already have in place are ‘good’ or ‘great’. The former is not to be downplayed, but the latter is what we must all strive to achieve if we’re serious about effecting positive change.

“The company set out from day one to tackle climate change head on,” said Simon Pyne.

“[We did so] by helping organisations to identify where they can make carbon reduction changes and, crucially, signpost them to sources of available funding that many businesses do not know exist.

“Moreover, the last few years have shown just how real the threat of climate change really is. The solutions needed both now and, in the future, will require people with the right skills and knowledge to navigate these challenges. And that is why we have worked closely with Bristol’s universities to provide work experience opportunities for the next generation of climate specialists.”

Public and private sector businesses and organisations are increasingly recognising the positive impact they can have by shifting to more sustainable and low-carbon means of operation.

To date, Greener Energy Futures has saved customers more than 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, as well as supporting the raising of £4m in grant-funding and saving nearly £300,000 of annual energy costs.
